This brief Q&A interview is part of an ongoing series designed to help us get to know our brothers better. If you know a brother you think would be a good profile candidate, please send his name and graduation year, along with your name and graduation year, to our alumni relations service: [email protected]. Make sure to mention it’s for Alpha Zeta PSU.
Why did you join Alpha Zeta?
I joined for a number of reasons. I got a good impression of fellowship from my first two or three visits to the house. As I learned more of the history of Alpha Zeta, I wanted to become a part of it.
What are some of your favorite memories of the fraternity?
The entire pledging process – just sharing the whole experience with my pledge class, the pranks, the fun, our bolt to the Stoltzfus farm, meeting with alumni, our pledge party (what I remember of it) – really, everything about those weeks will stay in my mind forever.
What kind of influence has the fraternity had on your life since graduation?
I feel a very strong tie back to the College of Ag Sciences, as well as to the University, due to the fact that I can visit the house and meet with new brothers and sisters. Even though it has been more than 10 years since graduation, I feel an affinity with these young men and women, what their challenges are, what motivates them, etc.
With whom are you still in contact? Who would you like to find?
The last contact I had was with Sharon Wagner (now married). This was about three years ago. I still see some alumni at the house during football weekends, or at tailgate parties, but generally I’m not in contact with anyone. I’d like to touch base with everyone! I’m looking forward to seeing what this new (Web-based) opportunity to keep in touch has to offer!
Tell us about your family. Are you married?
I will be married on June 7, 2003, to April Decker. We had dated for two years when I proposed (at PSU during Arts Fest 2001). No children. I live in Carlisle, Pa.
What other activities did you enjoy in school?
National Agri-Marketing Association, American Red Cross
What was your nickname?
Snookie
Did you live in the house?
I did not live in the house (my only regret … I wish now that I would have spent at least one year living in the house). Unfortunately, I had a very good friend with whom I agreed to get an apartment with before I pledged.
What do you do for a living?
I’m a marketing data analyst for Giant Food Stores.
What hobbies do you enjoy?
Motorcycling, golfing, home improvement
What are your goals for the next few years?
I am currently pursuing my MBA through Lebanon Valley College; after earning my degree, I hope to start a family (but, of course, April has some say in that!)
