Alpha Zeta Reunion Held in New Holland

Written by Emily Caldwell

The annual Alpha Zeta Reunion was held October 18, 2013 at Yoder’s Restaurant in New Holland, Pennsylvania. Nearly 30 people attended, and this year marked the 62nd year of the reunion.

It began with the class of 1950, which included attendees Donald Seipt, Harvey Brown and Jim Pierson. This group used to meet through annual farm picnics. Several years ago, Bob and Jane Pepple took over organizing the annual event.

The reunion included a lunch, an update from Corporation Board President Art Keen and plenty of time for story-telling.

Here are a few fun quotes and stories from the afternoon:
“I’m Duane, well Duke, Kennedy. They called me Duke in college, and this is the only place I still hear that.”

“We’ve been married nine years, but he promised me 50!” – Marilyn Kennedy, wife of Duane Kennedy

“I will be eternally grateful to Alpha Zeta because that’s where I met my husband!” – Anne Hoffmann, wife of Darrell Hoffmann.

“I’m 85 years old. I’ve been married 61 years. I have three children and seven grandchildren. My grandson Austin graduated from Penn State exactly 60 years after I did.” – Harvey Brown

“We’ve had 14 or 15 Seipts who have gone through Penn State. Our grandson is the house manager now. If he stays in class long enough, he’ll graduate in December.” – Donald Seipt

A tentative date for the 2014 reunion was set for October 18, 2014 at the same location of Yoder’s Restaurant in New Holland, Pennsylvania.

Corporation Board President Art Keen provided an update about the active chapter and the goals of the Corporation Board.

This was the 62nd year for the Alpha Zeta Reunion, which was started by the Class of 1950.
