Alpha Zeta teamed up with the Help Every Angel Live (HEAL) organization to raise funds through a Thanksgiving dinner for THON. The dinner was held Sunday, Nov. 17, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In its fourth year, HEAL has a primary goal of raising funds and awareness for THON. The organization has also recently taken on additional philanthropic efforts. Between HEAL’s 80-plus membership and Alpha Zeta’s Ag Hill connections, the actives prepared enough meals to feed 200. The menu included roasted turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce and pumpkin mousse for dessert. They charged just $8 and provided both dine-in and take-out options.
“We had about 70 attendees and raised about $1,000,” said sister Rebecca Shaw. “There were several people who gave donations higher than the $8 so that definitely helped out.”
The hard-working crew was able to sell the leftovers to fellow College of Ag fraternity Tau Phil Delta, also known as Treehouse.
Since the Corporation Board meeting was held earlier that afternoon, board members Art Keen ’69, Michael Flinchbaugh ’02, Eric Bengston ’75 and Daniel Frechen ’11 stayed to partake in the meal. “It’s so great to see the actives taking up initiatives like this,” said Frechen. “This is just another way Alpha Zeta’s outreach toward the Penn State and local community speaks volumes about the character of the the brothers and sisters. Their charity is limited only by their hectic student schedules and leadership responsibilities in other organizations on Ag Hill.”

Log onto http://thon.org, click “Donate Now” and be sure to select “Click to support the THON Organization or Dancer of your choice.” You can either search for “Alpha Zeta” in the search bar, or scroll down to “Greek” and check the “Alpha Zeta” box.
