We would like to thank all of those who donated to our active members participating in the last canning weekend for THON on September 23. Our members divided and conquered, bringing in donations from the Gettysburg and Wilkes-Barre areas. We appreciate the time given up by actives, the homes opened by our families, and the […]
A Covert Mission To Take Down The Goal Posts At Old Beaver Stadium
Frank Madden ’62, discusses Morrill Chapter and how joining AZ made the adjustment of going from a high school freshman class of 29 to a PSU Freshman class of 5,000-plus, much, much easier.
“I moved into the Alpha Zeta house and pledged during the fall semester of 1959,” said Madden. “I lived in an annex downtown my senior year with some other Brothers because membership numbers exceeded House capacity. During the time living in the house and annex, roommates changed each year. Best memories, a pledge class trip to Pittsburgh for the Penn State – Pitt football game in 1959, then a follow-up pledge class covert mission to take down the goal posts at Old Beaver stadium in late 1959.”

We received the following update from Dan Frechen ’11 in 2016, but would like to share it, as it is a testament to the value that AZ has for all who are involved with it. As the landscape changes, the values of AZ and Morrill Chapter remain, offering tremendous opportunity to its alumni and undergraduate base. Dan writes:

Carl Brown ’67 – 97% Retired
After a 40+ year career that included a Ph.D., Army service, college teaching, dairy judging, and helping to run his family farm, it’s no wonder that people seldom believe Carl Brown ’67 when he says that he’s “97% retired.” The dairy industry has always been a part of his life, after all—from growing up on a dairy farm to still living on a farm today. And after all he’s accomplished in between, he still credits Alpha Zeta for having a huge impact.
Click below for our full Q&A with Carl to find out what he’s done in his life, and why AZ has remained special to him through it all.
Be A Part Of Alpha Zeta’s Lasting Legacy
Alpha Zeta Corporation Board Vice President and Furnishings Chair Dan Frechen led an effort in 2016 to give the Alpha Zeta house a facelift, as part of preparations for the Centennial Celebration, held on April 23, 2016.
Brother Frechen’s project included replacing the front walkway and landing with compressed concrete pavers, updating the brick walls in front of the house and renovating the porch stairs. Starting in 2016, alumni were able to purchase commemorative pavers to have engraved and featured as part of the front walkway. This opportunity is still available to those looking to support Alpha Zeta while leaving their own lasting legacy on the house. You can reserve yours by clicking HERE.
