Penn State Homecoming 2013 vs Michigan

Penn State’s 2013 Homecoming Weekend promises new fun events along with the beloved traditions of the past. The theme, “generations evolve, traditions remain,” will be evident in the myriad of events available to alumni and students alike.

Kick-off your Homecoming celebration with an Ice Cream Social on October 11 at 1 p.m. and savor your delicious Creamery ice cream while rubbing elbows with other students and alumni. Enjoy performances by the Alumni Blue Band and appearances from the Nittany Lion and Penn State Cheerleaders. Don’t forget to pick up your class button while enjoying your ice cream and display your pride!

Enjoy the Best of Penn State Carnival on the Old Main lawn with more games, food and prizes as well as tours of the Belltower.

A can’t miss Homecoming Event, held at Rec Hall, is the annual pep rally where the entire Penn State community gathers to share in the excitement of the impending football game. Come show off your Lion’s pride while you enjoy appearances by some of your favorite Penn State groups, including the Blue Band, Cheerleaders and, of course, the Nittany Lion. Make sure to stick around for the crowning of your 2013 Penn State Homecoming King & Queen!

Following the Pep Rally on October 11 is the signature Homecoming event – the Parade. 2012 hosted 44 floats with participation by over 200 alumni, student and community groups. This year’s Homecoming Parade is sure to provide the same spectacular entertainment and creativity as in previous years.

Game day, October 12, is also jam-packed day with fun activities. In the morning pop in to the Nittany Lion Inn for breakfast and a lecture by Penn State alum and Associate Professor Matthew Silvis entitled “Forever Young – the Aging Athlete” for “Homecoming’s Huddle with the Faculty” event. This conversation focuses on the benefits of exercise throughout life and recommends exercise options for older adults.

After breakfast but before the game, check out the Homecoming Alumni Zone Tailgate and feast on State College delicacies while enjoying games, prizes, alumni celebrities and music by the Alumni Blue Band. Test your athletic abilities in the Game Zone with tailgate-style competitions and help yourself to the unlimited tailgate buffet with cold beer, wine, and soft drinks. And of course no tailgate would be complete without Happy Valley’s infamous Grilled Stickies and Berkey Creamery ice cream! This Alumni Zone is free and open to everyone, so stop by the Ashenfelter Indoor Multi-Sport Facility, conveniently located between the Bryce Jordan Center and the outdoor track.

Then head over to the stadium as our Nittany Lions kick-off against Michigan at 5 p.m.

Homecoming has been a tradition at Penn State since our first Homecoming game was played in 1920 against Dartmouth. Ninety-three years later we continue to celebrate our traditions and honor our pride by participating in familiar old events and inspired new ones. Through years of growth and change, Penn State Homecoming remains steadfast in its purpose to uphold the connections between the Blue & White and the alumni. For the Glory!
