An update on Alpha Zeta house projects
By Dan Frechen
Construction projects and house updates are progressing quickly, and we’re looking forward to showing off these efforts at the Centennial Celebration on April 23!
Here’s some information on what’s been happening:
We’ve laid down new concrete sidewalks and back door steps. We’ve installed a new gutter and underground drain plumbing through the south lawn. New 4-foot concrete foundations have been poured from under reset, and we re-mortared the original lilac sandstone step blocks on the front and back porches. Compressed concrete pavers have been placed on the front walk and landing. An engraved inlaid centerpiece bluestone will be installed on the landing, thanks to Aaron Harpster, ’96.
I’m also excited about the updated landscaping you’ll see around the house. We’ve removed several stumps and trees. Nate Ulmer, ’13, donated two boulders. We’ll also be planning two new weeping white spruces, five pollarded catalpas, a bur oak, a purple oak leaf beech and 16 new shrubs.
Watch for the fall newsletter for information about how to be a part of Alpha Zeta history with the front walkway project!
In the meantime, we welcome your contributions to keep these ongoing improvements manageable. Visit our website to donate online or for information on how to mail in gifts.
