Why Do YOU Support the Annual Fund?

Several alumni recently shared their reasons for financially supporting the annual fund of The Morrill Chapter of the Alpha Zeta Fraternity, Inc. Here’s what they had to say:

“What a question. Because it needs me? Because I owe it? Maybe yes and yes. But really, because I know how important teaching and learning the basic values of AZ are. Scholarship, leadership and service.Because I meet the young people today and see how much they need and deserve it. And because I can.”
-Edgar Fehnel ’54

“I feel that during my years at Penn State I received more from Alpha Zeta than I contributed. Since graduation I have tried to contribute financially in some small way each year so that the fraternity will be there in the future to help more students live the Alpha Zeta experiences I enjoyed so much.”
-Richard Rein ’63

“It is hard to explain in words the affection, pride, and fondness that I have for Alpha Zeta and the many friends who so positively affected my life. There is no other experience while at Penn State I can point to that made a greater difference in my life than the time I spent at Alpha Zeta. Because of the influence AZ had on me as a young man, I believe it is important to support the annual fund and the Brothers and Sisters of today’s Alpha Zeta.”

“My years at PSU, highlighted by all the various AZ activities, coupled with strong scholastic commitment and support, formed my “value system” that I have operated under and have been guided by my entire life. The start of my military duty via ROTC helped establish life long relationships with comrades and friends. I still vividly remember the projects, rushing, mixers, Blue Book prep, Whipples, and Suzie,Margie, and all my brothers. The small amount of financial support I can provide now to future generations will help advance AZ ideals and stewardship. Fight on State and Alpha Zeta.”
-Gary Minor ’63

“I believe that it is important to have a fraternity on campus that promotes scholarship and leadership as well as providing a great social life. Alpha Zeta fits the bill. I made many wonderful, supportive friends while I was there. Having not grown up on a farm but being interested in a career in an agriculture- related field, I learned a lot from the brothers that helped me relate to those in agriculture when I worked in the tobacco industry. I am glad that I attended Penn State during the time that the Ag Bio Chem Dept was part of the School of Agriculture or I would have missed out on a wonderful experience. I want the current and future students in agriculture to have that same opportunity.”
-Fred Rickett ’61

“Living in the house with my AZ Brothers was a large part of my development during my college years. The bonds and friedships made then still exist. In addition, I recall that as Chancellor during the 1949-50 academic year I was continually concerned about the lack of funds for the upkeep of the house and its furnishings. I wondered why there was not more support from the alumni. Of course, there was no annual campaign in those days. I feel strongly that contributing what ever I can, even in the small amount I do, is the least I can do for what the house and the brothers meant to me.”
-James O.Case ’50

“I had some great times at AZ Penn State and made some friends that have lasted ever since pledge class. I want to help make sure the same opportunity is available for current and future students.”
